Why this one.
Reed is the plainest form here, deliberately. The ridges are dead straight and evenly spaced, which sounds simple and is the hardest thing on this page to print well — any wobble in the machine shows up as a wave you cannot unsee. Printing it in one continuous spiral is what keeps them true: the nozzle never lifts, so there is no start point stacking up one side. The smooth band at the base gives the eye somewhere to rest, and gives the vessel some visual weight so it does not look like it might tip.

Will I see a seam?
No. These are printed in spiral vase mode, which means the nozzle never stops and restarts: it climbs continuously from the base to the rim in one unbroken line. There is no layer start point, so there is no seam stacking up one side and nothing to fill or sand out. What you will see is the ridge pattern of the form itself, which is the whole idea.
How fine is the detail?
We print these at 0.2mm layers as standard, which is where the ridges hold their edge best. We can go down to 0.08mm on request if you want the surface as fine as the machine will take it. Ask before you order and we will quote it. Side by side, most people cannot pick the difference by eye.
Can it hold water?
No, and we would rather say so plainly than have you find out with a puddle. Printing in one continuous spiral is what makes the surface seamless, and it also means the wall is a single pass of plastic with no second skin behind it. These are dry vessels: dried stems, branches, pampas, or empty as an object. If you want fresh flowers, stand a jar or a test tube inside one.
What is it actually made of?
Plant-based PLA, printed on our own machine in Australia. It is not ceramic and does not pretend to be. It is lighter than it looks, it will not shatter if a cat gets involved, and it does not need a kiln or a glaze to earn its place on a shelf.
Where should I not put it?
Not in a car in February, and not on a west-facing windowsill in full afternoon sun. PLA starts to soften around 55°C. Anywhere you would be comfortable sitting, it is comfortable too.
How do I clean it?
A damp cloth along the ridges, then dry it off. No dishwasher, no bleach, and no soaking. Because the wall is a single pass, water sitting against it for a long time is the one thing to avoid.
How long until it arrives?
Each one is printed when you order it, which takes most of a day on the machine. Larger sizes take longer. Dispatch is 1 to 3 business days, or 2 to 4 for a set of three. Standard post is $15.99 anywhere in Australia and free once your order clears $100. Express is $27.99.
Does the set of three have to match?
Not at all. The set is one Large, one Medium and one Small, and you pick the colour of each one separately. Three different colours is a perfectly normal order, and it is what most of the photographs on this page are.
